Saving Faith

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. "

A recent speaker at the Chapel (Rowen Jennings) was demonstrating to the audience what "believing in Him" was all about. He said he was tired and wanted to sit down on a nearby chair.

He then went over to the chair and said this was like how some religions provide assurance of salvation. He sat partially down but kept his balance on his feet saying, "Well, I can be saved if I trust Christ and go to church every week. " He shifted a little and said, "I can be saved if I trust Christ and give money to the church." He shifted again a little and said, "I can be saved if I trust Christ and live a decent life." In each case he was supported by his own feet, not the chair.

He then said what God wants us to do is trust Christ completely. This means ... and he sat back fully in the chair, raised his feet, and had a big smile ... the chair supports all his weight. He rested fully on the chair. Likewise, saving faith is trusting only Jesus.

Jesus invites you, saying, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
